with one comment

For those of you with a subscription to The Hollywood Reporter check out the write up about Jeremy Renner and his house flipping business (subscription required). Even the big boys have day jobs! We’ve had an actress who worked on hurt locker…Jason Lassen has worked with Jeremy Renner 3 of these projects. According to the article Jeremy Renner and his business partner (fellow actor Kristoffer Winters) invested $659,000 in their first home and sold it less that a year later for $900,000. The last house they flipped in 2008 sold for $4 Million ($2.45 million gross profit).

Jon Hamm worked in porn?

with 2 comments

Check out what Jon Hamm had to say about his struggles before he made it big:

up to my 40th birthday, and I don’t let myself forget that for 15 years after I left school I struggled to make a living. So what’s happening to me now is very nice.

I’ve been a barman, a waiter, a teacher, and I even helped out on a soft porn movie — as a set dresser, not a performer, I hasten to add — because I’d do everything I could to make enough money to pay the rent.

‘Thank goodness I had some understanding landladies. There are certain dark nights of the soul, when you say: “Good god, I’ve got to get a job”. But there has to be some kind of confidence in every actor that makes them get up in the morning, because it’s an incredibly difficult life to choose, if you don’t have success early.

‘I came out to Hollywood from St Louis when I was 25, which was already late. I found myself immersed in a huge city where thousands of people looked like me. I hoped I would be picked out of this group and I would do what I could to make money. My attitude was that I didn’t want to be this person that just keeps striving for years.

It was a scramble, though. At that time, the cool look for guys on TV was to look like a teenager. I have never looked like a teenager. So at 26, I was auditioning to play the father of one!

‘I decided that if nothing much was happening by the time I was 30, then I’d go and do something else.

‘In the end, I was 28 when the work started coming in regularly. I waited on my last table when I was 29.

John Paul Karliak – Donna/Madonna at The Celebration Theater

leave a comment

Celebration Tuesdays in August Brings Laughs with “Donna/Madonna”

New Comedy by John Paul Karliak Takes Mama-Drama to the next Level

Donna / Madonna

Beginning August 10 at 8:00 p.m., a new comedy about two wildly different women who share a common bond through a son will hit the main stage of Celebration Theatre. “Donna/Madonna” takes mama-drama to a new level as writer and performer John Paul Karliak takes audiences through a life of being raised by a Donna Reed-like mother in Scranton, Pa., but sharing genes with a Madonna-like fashion designer in L.A. Adopted by a doting, delicate Catholic housewife from Scranton, John Paul wants badly to be her perfect son. As he realizes he will never be the ideal local boy, he seeks answers from a very different source: his fashion-writing, married-to-a-British-pop-star birth mother. Through stories, characters and song, audiences will laugh out loud as John Paul fights the battle of nature versus nurture in “Donna/Madonna”. Taking us from his first living room performances to Celebration Theatre, he shows just how strong a mother can be… and when not to impersonate Carol Channing.

Backstage West has given John Paul Karliak, “Gold stars for believability and character commitment.”
